South Jersey Information Service Events

  • Fall Luncheon
  • New Years Eve Party
  • Al-Anon Program as part of AA Area 45 Convention
  • SJIS Spring Workshop

We can always use more volunteers to help out with these events! We have many little jobs which help us to pull it all together. Service is a great way to give back.

SJIS Event Coordinator General Responsibility
The SJIS Trustees developed a write-up of general responsibilities for anyone who becomes an SJIS Event Coordinator. If you are already an Event Coordinator (NYE Party, Luncheon, Workshop, Al-Anon Participation in AA Area 45 Conv.), or considering becoming one, please click here for this important information.

Click the contact us link to join our mailing list and get information. We will also provide more information on volunteer opportunities and the registation form for these events.

Volunteer Opportunities for SJIS Coordinators for Fellowship Events
It’s not hard and lots of help is available.

All four events have been done, annually, some for decades by SJIS fellowship volunteers. Lots of people in the fellowship have experience they can share and help to offer.
There are existing flyers, for each event, in Microsoft Word such as; “Mark Your Calendar”, announcement, and registration which can be easily be modified for this year’s events.  SJIS has detailed budget and attendance information too that make planning easier.  The Coordinator will be able to post to the new SJIS Web site, and use the SJIS Email list (over 400) to ask for volunteers.

Let it begin with you becoming the Coordinator for one event!  Then get the word out to the fellowship and be joined by others who work with you on your team.  It is fun to meet others in the fellowship.  Being a Coordinator is a way to work your program in service and give back to Al-Anon.

Here are the current openings for Coordinators and other volunteers. Contact us to ask questions or volunteer or call SJIS at (856)547-0855. Click here for Flyer to hand out at your local meetings, to those you sponsor, or to anyone you feel will benefit, themselves and the fellowship, through service.

SJIS Participation in AA Area 45 Convention Coordinator
Paul C. is the Coordinator
Contact Us to offer to help Paul with this event

SJIS provides Al-Anon participation during this AA Convention that is held every March (Usually on the last weekend, unless it is a holiday weekend) at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, NJ
SJIS has participated in this event for decades and many SJIS members volunteer each year.
Coordinator is a member of the AA Area 45 Planning Group that meets on the first Sunday of each month in Hammonton.  AA runs all logistics of the Convention, but Al-Anon has had a growing presence.  One of the featured events has been the Al-Anon skit which draws 400-500 attendees of the 1200-1400 at the Convention.
This year the theme is “Helping Hands.” Volunteers also help with hospitality, and staffing the SJIS Literature Table.

SJIS Spring Workshop Coordinator
Term is: March – May 2011
This position is open and looking for a volunteer!
SJIS Spring Workshop – May 14, 2011 – Cancelled The SJIS Trustees regret to announce, due to a lack of volunteers, our annual Spring Workshop is cancelled. Two years ago, this workshop had over 150 attendees who enjoyed a day of recovery with others in the fellowship. SJIS needs volunteers to be Coordinators of events but also to do lots of other less demanding, but still critical, service work.

The workshop is generally held on the third or fourth Saturday in May.
The Coordinator work runs from now until the Workshop.
The 2009 Workshop was held at The Presbyterian Church of Toms RIver.
The workshop was based upon the book Discovering Choices.  There were eight break-out sessions, four in the morning and four in the afternoon and a luncheon speaker.  Over 150 attended the event.  Bagels, fruit and coffee breakfast and a lunch with sandwiches and dessert were included in the price of admission.  Registration was done by downloading the registration form and mailing it into the SJIS office with a check.  The Coordinator runs the event and would need volunteers for: set-up, registration table, breakout session speakers, luncheon speaker, lunch food purchase and set-up, posters, etc

SJIS Fall Luncheon Coordinator
Term is: August – October 2010
Eileen A. is the Coordinator

The workshop is held at La Bove Grande Restaurant in Lakewood.  The Coordinator runs the entire event with volunteers. The restaurant manager is familiar with what is needed for seating, choice of entrees, when final number of attendees is due, etc.  He is very easy to work with for the event. The Coordinator picks the fund-raising theme of the event which is a silent auction.  In 2009, it was an auction of Welcome Baskets. In 2008, it was handmade God Boxes that members of Al-Anon in South Jersey provided.  Duties include: working with the restaurant manager, defining the theme, preparing announcement fliers to be emailed and posted on websites.  Emailing and posting registration forms.  Getting volunteers to help with announcements, finding a speaker, registration, setting up the auction items on tables, making a few announcements at the event. (Introducing speaker, closing the auction, etc.), making a final report of results.

SJIS New Years Eve Party Coordinator
Term is: November 2010 – Mid January 2011
This position is open and looking for a volunteer!

Coordinator work runs from October until mid-January when final results are sent to the Trustees.
This has been an ongoing event for six years held at First Presbyterian Church Merchantville.
The NYE Party Coordinator runs the entire event with volunteers.  Duties include, booking the church, booking the DJ (The same DJ has been there for all six years and is very well received and economical), preparing flyer for announcing the event, planning food, beverages, and decorations, getting tickets distributed and sold, identifying expenses and receipts and returning profits to SJIS.  SJIS provides the funds for all purchases, and there is well documented information about budgeting and food expenses from the past years.
